An expert in growing exotic plants was our guest speaker for the meeting on 11th November. A talk by Colin Ward on the subject of 'Hardy Exotics and Creating Micro Climates' inspired members of the gardening club to be more adventurous in plant growing. Colin was brought up in Hong Kong and as a young boy became enthralled by the plants he saw in his surroundings. Colin now heads up a family run nursery at Swines' Meadow Farm, Market Deeping specializing in hardy exotics, rare and unusual plants. His talks are done with a hands on approach, you actually get to see and touch the plants, he soon had members salivating and buying his treasured specimens. Colin gave members much information regarding origin of species and detailed tips for planting, preparation of soil, position, tips for getting plants through the winter and pruning to achieve profuse flowering. This talk proved to be very informative and most enjoyable. The club continues with the next meeting on Wednesday 9th December for a talk by Christine Bladon on the subject of ' A Miscellany of Gardens'. Christine is a much respected and well known plants woman who regularly opens her garden to the public through the National Gardens Scheme and Rippingale  Gardens Open Weekend. She has a wealth of knowledge on the subject of gardens. This is also our Christmas Wine and Finger Buffet event, an occasion much enjoyed by members.
